COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team witnessed five student-athletes garner Mid-South Conference postseason honors, the conference announced Thursday. Senior
Michael Rempel was named MSC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the fourth Blue Raider to earn back-to-back Player of the Year accolades.
Lindsey Wilson's All-Conference First Team selections include Goalkeeper Francois Djiba, Rempel, defender Mao Wong, and Forward Dominic Ayella. Ayella's 10 goals and four assists fueled the Lindsey Wilson offense, with standout performances like his hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Georgetown (Ky.). Rempel leads the team in assists with seven, as well as tacking on three goals. Wong added two goals and multiple critical takeaways in late game situations. Djiba proved to be crucial in the net boasting a 9-1-1, MSC 3-1-0 record, tallying 46 saves while allowing 11 goals.
In addition to the first team, Milan Diao represented Lindsey Wilson on the All-Conference Second Team. Diao's five goals and three assists contributed to the success of the team this season.
Cumberland's (Tenn.) Philipp Schmidtke was named MSC Player of the Year, tallying 15 goals and 11 assists. Fellow Phoenix Miquel Gelabert earned MSC Freshman of the Year honors with 14 goals and 10 assists. Cumberlands' (Ky.) head coach Paulo Neto and assistant coach Jack Smith were named MSC Coach of the Year and MSC Assistant Coach of the Year.
