Cumberland Wins Top-25 Battle, Hands Lindsey Wilson Women 77-66 Loss

Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Cumberland (Tenn.) University shot 52.6 percent from the field en route to a 77-66 win over host Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College on Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Cumberland sophomore forward Renae Williams led the No. 7-ranked Bulldogs (17-1) with 30 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field. Junior teammate Juliana Fernandes added 16 points, on five-of-nine shooting.
Cumberland extended its 12-point halftime lead to 14 (42-28) following junior Tomika Hall's consecutive baskets to open the second half. Hall ended the game with 12 points.

No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson (12-6) responded with an 18-5 run to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 47-44 with 11:28 left. Sophomore guard Krystal Jackson sparked the run with five of her seven points to aid the Blue Raider run.

Williams and Fernandes scored 16 of Cumberland's next 20 points to build the lead back to 14 points (69-55) with 3:57 remaining to secure the win.

Lindsey Wilson shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) for the game, but committed 17 turnovers and was unable to stop the Bulldogs' offense.

Lindsey Wilson overcame an early six-point Cumberland lead in the first half to grab a 20-17 lead with 9:59 left after Williams scored two of her team-high 22 points.

But the Lindsey Wilson lead was brief. Cumberland used a 9-0 run to lead 26-20 en route to opening a 12-point lead -- its largest lead of the first half -- to close the half. The Bulldogs shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) in the opening half to take a 38-26 lead at the break.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore center Terran Duncan added 16 points in the loss.
