COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at the Centre (Ky.) College Invitational on Saturday in Danville.
The Blue Raider women finished second in the women's 5,000-meter race with 47 points, while the men finished third in the men's 8,000-meter race with 65 points.
In the women's race, Lindsey Wilson freshman Stellah Sang won her first collegiate race with a time of 19 minutes, 19 seconds. She defeated her nearest competitor by 37 seconds.
LWC freshman Monicah Maiyo (20:59) and sophomore Cassie Niersel (21:01) finished fourth and fifth respectively to give the Blue Raider harriers three of the top five runners. Senior Meagan Crouse recorded her fifth career top-10 finish with a ninth place finish with a time of 21:53.
Lindsey Wilson freshman Amanda Johnson completed the Blue Raider squad with a time of 24:49 and a 29th place finish.
Junior Amber Cannon (26:31) and freshman Jessica Warren (27:21) finished 38th and 41st respectively as the pair ran as individuals.
Georgetown (Ky.) College won the women's meet scoring 33 point, including all harriers in the top-10.
In the men's race, junior
Emmanuel Isanda (28:01) and sophomore Kojo Hashiyama (28:16) recorded a fifth and sixth place finish to lead the Blue Raiders.
Freshman
Drake Midgett's 30:37 was good enough for 14th, while fellow freshman Shelby Gribbins finished 18th with a time of 31:59. Lindsey Wilson senior
John Kalz rounds out the Blue Raider harriers with a time of 34:40 and a 30th place finish.
Host Centre won the men's event with a team total of 17 points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, September 16, as they travel to the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational.
