DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's cross country teams opened their season today at the Centre (Ky.) College Invitational.
The Blue Raider men captured the team title, while the women finished second behind host Centre.
The Lindsey Wilson men scored a team-total 27 as four Blue Raiders recorded top-10 finishes. Centre finished in second with a total of 32. The LWC women scored 45 as three Blue Raiders cracked into the top-10. Centre won the event with 38.
In the men's race, freshman Christopher Kipchirchir won in his first collegiate race with a time of 27 minutes and 39.75 seconds over the 8,000-meter course.
Senior Emmanuel Isanda finished three seconds (27:42.99) behind Kipchirchir to give the Blue Raiders the top two harriers at the meet.
Freshman David Mutuse finished fourth with a time of 28:06 and junior Kojo Hashiyama recorded a sixth place finish with a 28:25.
Junior Caleb LaFond finished 14th with a time of 31:11 and freshman Brad Bilbro ended in 15th with a 31:21. Freshman Aaron Rousseau completed the Blue Raider men with a 26th place finish with a time of 33 minutes.
In the women's race, junior Marie Coyon led the Blue Raiders with a second place finish with a time of 20:23 over the 5,000-meter course. Coyon finished 42 seconds behind the event's winner, Georgetown (Ky.) College sophomore Britney Chesser (19:41).
LWC freshman Grace Korir (20:30) and junior Cassie Niersel (20:35) finished third and fourth respectively to give the Blue Raider harriers three of the top five runners.
Sophomore Amanda Johnson finished the run in 11th with a time of 22:14, while freshmen Nicole Furnish (25:17) and Candace Young (25:57) finished 28th and 30th to round out the Blue Raider harriers.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, September 15, as they travel to the Berea (Ky.) College Invitational in Berea.
