ROME, Ga. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team closed its fall season today by winning the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted by Berry College at Coosa Country Club.
The Blue Raiders shot a team total 622 (310-312) to win by eight strokes over second place Birmingham Southern (Ala.) College (320-310). Host Berry (Ga.) College finished third with a two-day total 650 (316-334).
Lindsey Wilson junior Krista Burton captured her fourth individual title of the fall and her program-best 13th title of her career with a 147 (73-74) over the par 72, 6,011 yard Coosa layout.
Junior Jessica Smith finished tied for fourth with a two-day total of 154 (77-77) to join Burton on the five woman all-tournament team.
Sophomore Chelsey Key tied for 14th with a 160 (78-82) and senior Aline Decker tied for 16th with a 161 (82-79) to complete the Lindsey Wilson quartet.
Southwestern (Kan.) College's Blair Koehn finished second with a 151 (75-76), University of Mobile's Erika Lundberg ended in third with a 153 (77-76) and Birmingham Southern's Kelley Burgess finished with a 154 (79-75) to complete the all-tournament team.
After opening with a bogey, Burton made three consecutive birdies -- including just missing an ace on the 163-yard, par 3 third hole -- to jump start her round. The Jamestown, Ky., native added another birdie on the back nine en route to the two-over par 74.
Smith carded three birdies on the day and Decker added a pair as the Blue Raiders closed the fall with their third win in four team tournaments.
