Women's Basketball Wins Home Opener, Improves to 4-0

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team never trailed as the Blue Raiders beat visiting Robert Morris (Ill.) College 89-73 today at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson controlled the game from the opening tip limiting the visiting Eagles (0-2) to just 37.3 percent (28-of-75) shooting for the game. The Blue Raiders' success continued on the offensive end making 57.1 percent of their shots (32-of-56).

In fact, the only glaring statistic for LWC coach John B. Wethington was 31 turnovers.

"We just have to learn to value the ball," Wethington said. "We have the athletes to produce on both ends of the court, but we can't keep giving away possessions with careless turnovers."

Junior guard Sierra Rambert scored six points during a 12-0 run to give the Blue Raiders separation early in the first half. Rambert finished with 14 points.

Senior guard Ewa Bukowska hit one of her three three-pointers with 4:14 left in the opening half to give the Blue Raiders a lead -- their largest lead of the half. Bukowska finished with 17 points and seven rebounds for the game.

The Blue Raiders led at the break 46-33.

Lindsey Wilson continued its roll in the early portions of the second half.

Sophomore center Viktoria Krell -- who scored just six points in the first half -- scored six in the first three minutes of the second half forcing Robert Morris into a timeout. Krell led the team with 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting. She also added seven rebounds.

To Blue Raiders extended their lead to as many as 22 points in the second half en route to the 89-73 win.

"A win is a win," Wethington said. "And we'll happily take it, but we have a long way to go before we are a very good team. This team works hard and we'll get there."

Junior forward Kristi Apple joined Krell, Bukowska and Rambert in double figures with a career-high 10 points. The Blue Raiders improve to 4-0 on the season. With one more win Lindsey Wilson will match the best opening start since the 2004-05 season.

Robert Morris matched the Blue Raiders with four players in double figures led by Ashley Williams' 17 points. Jerita Gordon (16 points), Jessica Harris (14) and Shante Clark (12) also finished with double digits.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 14 against Indiana University Southeast at Biggers Sports Center.
