Women's Basketball Cruises to 75-65 Win over Walsh University

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team used a dominating first half to beat visiting Walsh (Ohio) University 75-65 tonight at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (9-2) shot 50 percent (17-of-34) in the first half to build a 15-point halftime lead and were never seriously threatened in the second half en route to their third straight win.

Lindsey Wilson used runs of 12-3 and 9-3 to build a 16-point advantage midway through the opening half. The Blue Raiders maintained their double digit lead throughout the rest of the first half and went into the locker room with a 42-27 lead.

In the second half, Walsh (4-6) scored on its first five possessions to cut the lead to eight (46-38) with 16:46 left. The Blue Raiders regained the momentum scoring the game's next four points and gradually extended their lead back to 15 with 9:40 remaining.

The Cavaliers climbed within seven (66-59) with 5:03 left but would get no closer.

Lindsey Wilson -- despite struggling much of the night from the free throw line -- made six of nine charity tosses in the final two minutes to secure the 75-65 win.

The Blue Raiders finished shooting 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the field for the game after hitting just 33.3 percent in the second half. Walsh shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field, including 8-of-14 from beyond the three-point arc.

Lindsey Wilson junior guard Sierra Rambert scored a team-high 24 points in the win. Senior guard Ewa Bukowska contributed 13 points and sophomore center Viktoria Krell added 12. Krell finished with 12 rebounds -- her fourth double-double of the season -- helping the Blue Raiders to a 44-34 rebounding advantage.

Walsh sophomore forward Katie Berry finished with 24 points and junior guard Jessie Miller added 20.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on Saturday, Dec. 13, as the Blue Raiders travel to Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Ind.
