Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Freshman forward Viktoria Krell continued her stellar Mid-South Conference play recording her sixth double-double of the season in Lindsey Wilson's 85-72 win over visiting Pikeville (Ky.) College tonight at Biggers Sports Center.
Krell recorded career-highs with 28 points and 16 rebounds to help the Blue Raiders (16-8, 4-0) stay perfect in MSC play season this season. The Ludwigsburg, Germany, native, is averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game conference play.
Despite sluggish periods of play -- on both ends of the court -- Lindsey Wilson remained atop the Mid-South heading into Saturday's 1 p.m. CT game with Georgetown (Ky.) College.
The Blue Raiders -- who entered the game as the best shooting team in the MSC -- managed just 42 percent (29-of-69) from the field on the night, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from three point range.
Lindsey Wilson's woes on the offensive carried over to the defensive side of the ball as Pikeville shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the field. The Lady Bears shoot 41.4 percent on the season.
But Lindsey Wilson countered its shortcomings by out-rebounding the visitors 51-30.
"We were not at the top of our game tonight," Lindsey Wilson coach John B. Wethington said. "We've had a lot of sickness within our team and it has been difficult during practice with only eight healthy players during the week.
"But you have to give Pikeville all the credit; they played incredibly hard and made it difficult on us on both ends of the court."
After leading 41-33 at the break, Lindsey Wilson sprinted to a 56-39 lead four minutes into the second half. The Blue Raiders maintained the double digit lead through much of the second half before the Lady Bears closed within six (68-62) with 4:12 left.
Lindsey Wilson responded with eight straight points and 12 of the next 14 to regain momentum and secure the 85-72 win.
Lindsey Wilson senior forward Kara Osterfeld added 17 points in the win. Senior center Terran Duncan chipped in 15 points while junior guard Ewa Bukowska added 10.
Pikeville senior forward Heather English led the Lady Bears with 18 points. Junior guard Alice Daniel chipped in 13.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 9, as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (Ky.) College.
