Savannah, Ga. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team finished fifth in their first tournament of the spring season at the Savannah College of Art & Design Spring Invitation on Tuesday at the Wilmington Island Club.
Lindsey Wilson shot a two-day total of 661 (327-334) to finish 23 strokes behind tournament winner and No. 3-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University in the 14-team field.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Krista Burton led the fourth-ranked Blue Raiders with a two-day total of 158 (80-78) over the 5,874-yard, par-71 course., Burton, a Jamestown, Ky., native, finished tied for fifth and was named to the five-woman all-tournament team.
Blue Raider freshman Chelsey Key finished tied for 16th in the 81-woman field with a two-round total of 165 (80-85). Senior Beth Cooper finished tied for 21st with a 167 (83-84) and sophomore Cheslee Elkins ended tied for 35th with a 174 (84-90).
Senior Jessica Robertson rounds out the Blue Raider team tied for 38th with a 175 (88-87). Junior Aline Decker, competing as an individual, finished tied for 29th with a 171 (84-87).
No. 11-ranked Shorter (Ga.) College finished the event with a team-total of 651 (325-326) to finish behind Embry-Riddle. No. 2-ranked Berry (Ga.) College's 655 (326-329) and Seminole Community College's 659 (324-335) finished third and fourth respectively.
Shorter's Daniela Vargas won the individual title with a 147 (75-72).
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on March 27-28 as the Blue Raiders travel to the Campbellsville (Ky.) University Spring Invitational at Maywood Country Club in Bardstown, Ky.
