Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Behind double-doubles from sophomore center Viktoria Krell and junior guard Sierra Rambert, the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team defeated Brescia (Ky.) University 69-57 tonight at Biggers Sports Center.
Krell -- the reigning Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week -- recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Rambert scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. She also dished out five assists.
The game remained close throughout the first 10 minutes before the Blue Raiders used a 14-4 run to push their lead to 26-13 with 8:15 remaining in the half. Sophomore forward Bethany Spillman scored four points and pulled down four of her 12 rebounds during the run.
Brescia kept things close when senior forward Paula Carver and junior guard Natasha Farris ignited a 14-5 run by hitting back-to-back three pointers. The run cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 32-27 at the end of the first half.
The Bearcats opened the second half with an 18-12 run to take the lead 45-44 with 9:14 remaining in the game. Carver nailed two straight threes during the run. She finished with 15 points.
The Blue Raiders regained their composure using a 24-5 run over the next seven minutes to grab their largest lead of the night at 18 points (68-50) to put the game out of reach.
Krell and senior guard Ewa Bukowska led the charge scoring 19 of the 24 points during the run. Bukowska finished with 11 points on the night.
Lindsey Wilson outscored Brescia 34-14 in the paint. The Blue Raiders also out-rebounded the Bearcats 40-31, including 17 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second chance points.
Sophomore guard Brittany Bird tied Carver with team-high honors with 15 points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Jan. 15 as the Blue Raiders host Midway (Ky.) College at Biggers Sports Center. The game is a make-up of a game postponed on Dec. 15 due to inclement weather.
