Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- A dominating second half helped host Campbellsville (Ky.) University beat the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team 65-55 tonight in a battle of ranked teams at the Powell Athletic Center.
The No. 13-ranked Lady Tigers overcame a 29-24 halftime deficit to remain perfect in the Mid-South Conference and end the Blue Raiders' five-game winning streak between to the two programs.
No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson (15-5, 1-1 in the MSC) struggled throughout the night on both ends of the court as the Blue Raiders shot just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) on the offensive end and allowed the host to shoot 55.1 percent (27-of-49) from the field.
Despite their troubles, Lindsey Wilson had its chances down the stretch.
Down by four with just under three minutes remaining, Lindsey Wilson sophomore Viktoria Krell missed the front end of the bonus that could have cut the lead to two. Campbellsville (17-3, 3-0) capitalized on the miss with a fastbreak lay-up to push the lead to 56-50 with 2:38 left.
Three more Blue Raider misses from the charity stripe in the waning minutes thwarted any hopes of a Lindsey Wilson comeback. The Blue Raiders finished the night making just 7-of-14 freebies. Campbellsville scored following each Lindsey Wilson miss free throw to secure the 10-point win.
Krell finished with her 11th double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Sierra Rambert led the Blue Raiders with 14 points and senior guard Ewa Bukowska added 13.
Four Lady Tigers scored in double figures led by sophomores Whitney Ballinger and Courtney Danis each with 14 points. Ballinger added 17 rebounds for the double-double. Sophomore Wendi Messer (12 points) and junior Kristi Ensminger (10) also scored double digits.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 24, as the Blue Raiders travel to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg.
