Swimming Posts Six National Qualifying Times in First Meet

WILMORE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College swimming team found early success in the program's first meet at the Asbury College Invitational Saturday. Four individual swimmers and two relay teams posted national qualifying times at the George E. Luce Physical Activities Center.

"That was what I expected," said Lindsey Wilson coach Bart Garlick of the national-standard times. "It's really great to have the whole team qualify for nationals in the first meet. Today was a great start to what we want to accomplish for Lindsey Wilson swimming."

Freshman Ivan Ivancic made history in the men's 200-freestyle with the first win by a Blue Raider swimmer. Ivancic paced the field, finishing in one minute and 51.54 seconds. The Zagreb, Croatia native's time met the B-Standard for the the NAIA National Championships.

The Blue Raiders swam a pair of A-Standard times in two relay races.

Ivancic was joined by freshmen Daniel Lyle, Alex Medley and Daniel Pulliam in the men's 200-medley relay and 200-free relay. In the medley, the group finished in 1:46.87, while in the freestyle they touched the wall in 1:34.57.

Ivancic cleared his final national-standard time of the day in the 100-backstroke. Clocking in at 1:51.54, the freshman met the B-Standard for nationals.

Lyle, a freestyle specialist, met two B-Standard times in the 50-free (22.97) and 100-free (50.88). Medley finished the 50-free behind Lyle in 24.04, while Pulliam finished third among the Blue Raiders, touching in 24.89.

Pulliam rounded out the events raced for Lindsey Wilson with a 1:10.16 finish in the 100-breastroke.

With the program's first meet out of the way, Garlick and his squad now look towards the future.

"We'll be back in competition on Nov. 7 at Campbellsville and we're going to continue to get better," said Garlick. "Even though all the men have qualified for nationals, I'm still looking for more individual qualifying times."

Lindsey Wilson's woman swimmer, freshman Megan Humphress, was at the event but did not enter any races due to illness.

The Blue Raiders meet at Campbellsville starts at 1 p.m. CT on Nov. 7.
