ROME, Ga. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team placed two golfers in the top five of the standings to finish second at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry (Ga.) College at Stonebridge Golf Club on Oct. 6.
Shorter (Ga.) College took the invitational title with 625 total strokes. The Blue Raiders finished five strokes behind with 630, while South Carolina Beafort took third place after carding a 643.
Lindsey Wilson senior Jessica Smith paced the Blue Raiders, shooting a 153 (76-77) to finish as the individual runner-up. South Carolina Beaufort's Adriana Saavera finished first after carding a 152 (78-74), just one stroke in front of Smith.
Blue Raider senior Krista Burton joined Smith in the top three, tying Shorter's Greta Lange for third place with a 154 (82-72). Burton knocked 10 strokes off her first-round score of 82 to put herself into the race for the individual title.
Junior Chelsey Key was the third LWC golfer on the leader board in a tie for 11th place after shooting a 160 (76-84). Senior Cheslee Stone turned in a solid second round to finish tied for 28th place with a 166 (87-79).
In a tie for 35th place was sophomore Paola Gonzalez, carding a 170 (84-86), while freshmen Kelsey Joslyn and Paige Raine played as individuals and shot a 160 (80-80) and 173 (84-89), respectively.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Oct. 12-13 in the Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University Fall Invitational at Old Hickory Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.
