Turnovers Doom Women's Basketball in 73-70 Loss to McKendree

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- McKendree (Ill.) University scored 30 points off of 20 Lindsey Wilson College turnovers as the 17th ranked Blue Raiders lost 73-70 on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center. Senior Sierra Rambert led Lindsey Wilson in the loss with 21 points and seven rebounds.

Junior Viktoria Krell joined Rambert in double figures with 12 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Katie Fullerton paced the Bearcats with 20 points and six rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson trailed by seven with 32 seconds to play but utilized a full-court press defense to frustrate McKendree down the stretch and claw back within four (72-68) with 20 seconds to play.

Sophomore Lindsey Waters received a pass in the paint off a Bearcat turnover but missed the tough shot that would have made it a one-possession game. Rambert connected on a layup to make the score 73-70, but time ran out on the Blue Raider comeback effort.

The majority of the first half was an even game with five ties, but over the last six minutes, the Bearcats took complete control.

At the 3:45 mark, Lindsey Wilson trailed by just three points (27-24), but the Bearcats went on an 11-0 run down the stretch to build a first-half lead as large as 14 points.

At halftime, Lindsey Wilson was shooting just 37.0 percent from the field, while McKendree blistered the nets at a 56.7 percent clip.

It didn't take long for the Blue Raiders to make the game interesting again in the second half. Over the first four minutes, Lindsey Wilson outscored McKendree (13-3) to pull within two points of the lead.

Free throws were important for Lindsey Wilson as they made it to the line 13 times in the second half, making nine of its attempts. It was not enough, however, to make up for careless turnovers that the Bearcats repeatedly turned in to uncontested layups.

Four Bearcats finished the game with double figures scoring as Haley Klingelhoefer (12), Ashley Agee (10) and Jessica Steinmetz (10) joined Fullerton.

McKendree shot 54.5 percent from the field for the game, including a 40.0 mark from behind the arc. Lindsey Wilson shot just 38.8 percent from the field with a 23.8 percentage from three.

With the loss Lindsey Wilson falls to 5-1 on the season and snaps its 15-game home winning streak, while McKendree improves to 7-3 with the win on the road.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 5 p.m. CT on Nov. 30 at Berea (Ky.) College. Lindsey Wilson beat Berea 77-60 earlier in the season on Nov. 21 in the Berea College Classic.
