Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team used a strong first half en route to a 79-70 victory over University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) today in a battle of ranked teams at Biggers Sports Center.
No. 23-ranked Lindsey Wilson (19-7, 5-3 in the Mid-South Conference) used a 22-6 run in the first half to take double digit lead. They did not trail the rest of the way.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore center Viktoria Krell scored 21 of her game-high 24 points in the first half to help the Blue Raiders take a 39-28 lead into the locker room. Krell finished with her league-leading 14th double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
No. 12-ranked University of the Cumberlands (22-4, 7-2) chipped away at the Lindsey Wilson lead throughout the second and closed within one (55-54) with seven minutes remaining.
Cumberlands senior guard Madison Flowers led the Patriots charge with three of her five three-pointers after the break. She finished with a team-high 18 points.
But Lindsey Wilson responded to the Cumberlands' comeback bid with a 12-3 run over the next two minutes pushing the lead to 67-57. Senior guard Ewa Bukowska nailed two three-pointers during the run. Bukowska finished with 16 points, all in the second half.
The Blue Raiders made their free-throws down the stretch to secure the 79-70 win.
Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Cumberlands 40-32 which led to 10 second chance points and a 24 point advantage in the paint. The Blue Raiders shot 57.1 percent (28-of-49) from the floor and held the Patriots to 37.9 percent (22-of-48).
Junior guard Sierra Rambert joined Krell and Bukowska in double-digits with 22 points.
