Women's Golf Routes MSC Fall Tournament Field

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- With five of the top eight finishers, the Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team led its nearest competitor by 36 strokes en route to winning the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament at the Campbellsville Country Club.

The Blue Raiders secured the championship shooting a 612 (305-307), while Campbellsville (Ky.) University turned in a 648 to take second place. University (Ky.) of the Cumberlands rounded out the top three with a 657 (323-334).

Lindsey Wilson senior Jessica Smith won the individual title with a score of 148 (76-72). Smith finished the tournament with six birdies, including four in the second round. The veteran wrapped up the final round in style with a birdie on No. 12, her final hole of the tournament.

Blue Raider junior Chelsey Key finished second, carding a 150 (73-77). Key sunk a tournament-high seven birdies and scored two under par on par fives over the two rounds.

Senior Cheslee Stone rounded out the top three, all belonging to the Blue Raiders, with a 157 (77-80), one stroke in front of Cumberlands' Emma Cutmore.

Senior Krista Burton played a consistent tournament for Lindsey Wilson, securing 21 pars to finish fifth with a 160 (79-81). Sophomore Paola Gonzalez also connected on 21 pars, finishing eighth following a 162 (84-78).

Freshman Paige Raine finished 16th playing as an individual. The newcomer carded a 169 (79-90) for the tournament.

Smith, Key, Stone and Burton were named to the All-Tournament Team. The top five golfers on the leader board were awarded a spot on the team.

Lindsey Wilson, winner of its first three events of the season, returns to action on Oct. 5 in the Berry (Ga.) College Fall Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.
