Three-Point Flurry Sinks Women's Basketball 79-67 at Rio Grande

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Playing in its first conference game as a member of the Mid-South Conference, the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) made quite a debut, connecting on 15-of-25 3-point attempts to beat Lindsey Wilson College 79-67 on Thursday at Newt Oliver Arena.

Leah Kendro paced the Redstorm with 23 points and six rebounds, including a 5-of-9 performance from behind the arc. Joining Kendro in double figures was Jenna Smith and Bre Davis with 20 and 15 points, respectively.

Sierra Rambert scored 23 points for Lindsey Wilson (10-5), while Viktoria Krell added 16 points and 15 rebounds to register her 10th double-double of the season.

It was a close contest throughout, with multiple lead changes in the first half. At the break, Rio Grande led by just three (38-35) as Lindsey Wilson was able to hold close by forcing 11 turnovers.

Still, 15 three pointers were too much to overcome when the Blue Raiders could only hit seven for the game themselves at a 21.9 percentage. Lindsey Wilson did win the rebound battle 38-37 over the Redstorm.

Rio Grande (10-7) finished the game shooting 49.0 percent from the field, while Lindsey Wilson connected at a 37.5 percent clip. Rio Grande also hit 14-of-16 free throws, compared to just six makes for the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Jan. 16 at Pikeville (Ky.) College.
