NEW ORLEANS -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team held host Xavier (La.) University scoreless over the final six-plus minutes to win 53-51 on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders trailed 51-43 after Xavier's Brittany Powell scored the final Gold Nugget points of the game with 6:22 left. Lindsey Wilson -- who led for just three minutes of the game -- scored the game's final 10 points en route to the win.

Lindsey Wilson won their second straight after overcoming slow starts in the opening minutes of each half.

Xavier (7-4) scored nine of the game's first 10 points and led by double digits midway through the opening half. The Blue Raiders fell behind by as many as 11 points on two different occasions before ending the half with a 16-7 run to tie the game at 24-24.

Following halftime, Lindsey Wilson struggled once again as Xavier jumped out to a 37-28 lead seven minutes into the second half. But the Blue Raiders refused to go away and remained within striking distance prior to the decisive run to close the game.

The Lindsey Wilson defense limited the host to just 30 percent (21-of-70) shooting from the field, including missing their last eight shots. Xavier made just one of 14 (7.1 percent) three pointers for the game.

The Blue Raiders also had difficulties shaking off the New Year offensive rust.

Lindsey Wilson hit 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the field and 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from beyond the three-point arc. The Blue Raiders also committed 24 turnovers.

Despite the frigid shooting, Lindsey Wilson placed three Blue Raiders in double figures led by senior Sierra Rambert's 15 points. Sophomore Michelle Copley chipped in 11 points and junior Viktoria Krell added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Powell led Xavier with 13 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, January 3, as the Blue Raiders travel to Loyola (La.) University.
