Football Beats Kentucky Christian 40-37 in Double Overtime

Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Lindsey Wilson College freshman defensive lineman Derrick Barrett's fumble recovery on the Blue Raiders' two-yard line secured a 40-37 double overtime win over Kentucky Christian University on Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The KCU turnover was the sixth takeaway of the day for the Blue Raiders (3-5, 2-1 in the Mid-South Conference East Division) and the second in the two overtimes.

Freshman kicker Mark Corbett kicked the Blue Raiders into the lead with a 37-yard field goal in the second extra frame. Following the LWC score, Kentucky Christian marched deep inside the redzone before Barrett jarred the ball loose from Knight running back Tevin Redmond and recovered for the win.

Kentucky Christian falls to 0-8 overall this season and 0-5 in the MSC East.

Lindsey Wilson never trailed in a game that featured four ties. The Blue Raiders jumped out to an early 7-0 lead 14 seconds into the game as sophomore DeMichael Wallace scored on a 59-yard catch and run from freshman quarterback Ricky Bowling.

The score was the first of four for Wallace on the day.

Following a one-yard keeper from Kentucky Christian Beau Dailey, the Blue Raiders scored nine straight points to grab a 16-7 lead. Lindsey Wilson freshman Austin Oldham produced the Blue Raiders' third safety of the season as he blocked a punt through the back of the endzone for a 9-7 lead. Three minutes later, Wallace scored from one-yard out for a 16-7 lead.

The Knights responded with a two-yard Dailey score following a 40-yard punt return from Rashad Earls. The Blue Raiders led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. Dailey rushed for 158 yards today.

The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 23-13 as Bowling connected with freshman receiver Matt Powers in the back of the endzone. The touchdown is Powers' team-leading seventh score of the season. Bowling finished the game 14-of-29 for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Lindsey Wilson led 23-16 entering the half.

Following the break, Dailey rushed for his third touchdown of the day to tie the game at 23-23 early in the third quarter. Lindsey Wilson regained the lead two minutes later with a four play, 62-yard drive that culminated with Wallace touchdown to give the Blue Raiders a 30-23 lead.

After a Redmond touchdown tied the game, Wallace scored his career-high third rushing touchdown of the day to give Lindsey Wilson a 37-30 lead with 9:42 left in the game. Wallace finished with 95 rushing and 67 yards receiving on the day.

But Dailey led the Knights down the field and completed a two-yard pass on fourth and goal to tie the game for the last time.

In the first overtime, Lindsey Wilson freshman Austin Fudge picked off his second pass of the day and third of the season to give the Blue Raider offense a chance to win the game. But after stalling on the KCU 21 yard line, Corbett pushed the potential game-winner wide right sending the game into double overtime.

Lindsey Wilson didn't miss on its second opportunity to win the program's first overtime game.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 30, as the Blue Raiders host West Virginia University Tech at Blue Raider Stadium.
