BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Ashley Rainey scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds but it was not enough as Western Kentucky University pulled away from the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team for a 72-52 exhibition win at E.A. Diddle Arena on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders led 19-18 with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half before Western Kentucky went on a run to lead 34-20 and never looked back. At halftime, the Hilltoppers held a 36-23 lead.
Lindsey Wilson played a close second half, being outscored just 36-29.
Senior Viktoria Krell came close to a double-double for Lindsey Wilson with 11 points and nine rebounds, while her classmate Bethany Spillman added six boards. Sophomore Sarah Gillis finished with eight points and a team-high three assists.
Western Kentucky was led by LaTeira Owens with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Amy McNear and Janae Howard also finished in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson led the shooting battle, knocking down 42.2 percent of its field goals and 30 percent from 3-point range while the Hilltoppers shot just 38.8 percent from the field and 21.7 percent on threes.
Led by Rainey and Krell, the Blue Raiders also beat Western Kentucky on the glass 39-33. The rest of the hustle stats, however, went to the Hilltoppers with a 16-7 advantage in steals and 3-1 lead in blocks.
Lindsey Wilson plays its regular-season home opener at 5:30 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 5 against Morris College at Biggers Sports Center.
