Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- It was a rebound kind of day for the Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team at the Daytona Beach Shootout.
Following a disappointing 87-79 loss to Indiana University Southeast on Thursday, the No. 19-ranked Blue Raiders rebounded to upset No. 5-ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 72-54 today at the ICI Center.
Lindsey Wilson senior Viktoria Krell and sophomore Ashley Rainey each recorded double-doubles to help the Blue Raiders (9-3) avoid back-to-back losses.
Krell recorded game-highs with 24 points and 19 rebounds while Rainey added 16 points and 16 rebounds. Senior guard Diondra Anthony added a career-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists in the win.
The trio's cumulate efforts on the boards enable the Blue Raiders to a dominant 64-31 rebounding advantage for the game. The 64 rebounds is a season high for Lindsey Wilson and 10 shy of the program's single-game record.
While the Blue Raiders have consistently out-rebounded their opponents all season, the Lindsey Wilson defense has often struggled.
But today, the Lindsey Wilson defense held the Cougars (7-3) to just 26.8 percent (19-of-71) shooting from the field. Saint Xavier entered today's game shooting nearly 43 percent as a team from the field.
While the Lindsey Wilson defense was clicking, the Blue Raider offense shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) from the field and connected on 74.1 percent (20-of-27) of their charity throws. The lone deficiency for the Blue Raiders proved to be their 24 turnovers.
Saint Xavier's Marissa Young and Michelle Tourtillott each scored 14 points for the Cougars in a losing effort.
The Blue Raiders end their pre-Christmas schedule at 2 p.m. CT on Monday, Dec. 20, as they face No. 6-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in the Daytona Beach Shootout at the ICI Center.
