Krell Moves Up Scoring List, No. 18 Lindsey Wilson Rips Pikeville 70-52

Box Score

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Ashley Rainey fought her way to a double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds as the 18th ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team won its sixth game in a row with a 70-52 handling of Pikeville (Ky.) College at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center on Saturday.

Senior Viktoria Krell added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Raiders and her classmate Diondra Anthony finished in double figures with 12 points and nine assists.

Krell moved into second place on the all-time scoring list at Lindsey Wilson with 1,696 points after her hook shot went down at the 2:30 mark of the second half.

The senior passed Terran Duncan who finished her career in 2008 with 1,694 points. Duncan is currently an assistant coach at Pikeville, ironically giving her a front-row seat to see her move down to third place on the career list.

Early threes by junior Michelle Copley and senior Bethany Spillman helped Lindsey Wilson erase the shooting woes in the paint to give the Blue Raiders a 14-11 lead with 11 minutes to play in the opening half.

Rainey - the NAIA's top shooter entering the game at 69.7 percent - continued her shooting woes for the second straight game shooting just 6-of-13 in the opening half before she got things going later in the game to lead Lindsey Wilson.

Junior Tiffany Williams entered the game late in the first half and knocked down a pair of triples to help Lindsey Wilson close the half up 42-28.

The lead ballooned to as many as 22 points as the name of the game for Lindsey Wilson became limiting any Bear runs in the games' final minutes.

That task was easier said than done as Pikeville's Natiera Hinton was hard to stop, finishing with a team-high 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Hinton made her best effort to put together a comeback but got little help as Whitney Compton was the next highest scorer with nine.

The shooting was horrid on both ends of the court as Lindsey Wilson led the way at 39.4 percent and Pikeville finished at 30.2 percent. The Blue Raiders were better from beyond the arc at 41.2 percent (7-of-17), while the Bears shot 25.0 percent on its three-point attempts.

With the numerous misses, a lot of rebounds were available as Lindsey Wilson finished with a 47-43 advantage on the glass.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Dec. 9 against University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center with the men's game against the Patriots to follow at 8 p.m.
