Men's Tennis Shuts Out Competition for MSC Tournament Championship

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team blanked No. 4 seed University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 5-0 in the semifinals and then topped No. 2 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) University 6-0 in the finals to win the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship on Thursday at the Lackey Tennis Center.

Andrews Moraes and Andre Santos led the way for Lindsey Wilson, registering a singles win in both matches while also winning both No. 1 doubles matches by an 8-2 score.

Against Cumberlands, Moraes won his No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 against Oscar Pantoja and beat Pablo Numbela from Campbellsville 6-1, 6-2.

Playing No. 3 singles, Santos beat Cumberlands' Jerid Neely 6-0, 6-1 before overcoming Campbellsville's Filip Pavlovic 6-2, 6-2 in the finals.

No. 5 singles player Antoine Pourin also finished a match for the Blue Raiders, beating Campbellsville's Zac Malyon 6-2, 6-1.

Freddy Luciani and Justin Martin teamed at No. 2 doubles in both matches, winning 8-2 against Cumberlands and 9-8 (8-6) against Campbellsville.

Lindsey Wilson's Pourin and Marlon DalPont recorded wins at No. 3 doubles of 8-3 against the Patriots and 8-4 against the Tigers to seal the championship.

With the conference tournament championship the Blue Raiders advance to the NAIA Qualifying Tournament on Friday, April 30 where they will face either the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (KIAC) Champion or Ohio Dominican University at the Lackey Tennis Center.
The All Mid-South Conference teams and individual awards were also announced in conjunction with the tournament.
Lindsey Wilson's Luciani was named Co-Player of the Year with Campbellsville's Enrique Rubio, while Bill Shook was named the Coach of the Year. Luciani, Moraes and Santos were named First-Team Singles honorees and Moraes and Santos teamed to take First-Team Doubles honors.
