No. 14 Women's Basketball Blitzes Wilberforce for 89-59 Win

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Three-point shooting not included, the 14th ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team flirted with perfection as it took apart Wilberforce (Ohio) University 89-59 on Friday night at Biggers Sports Center.

While the Blue Raiders took just six three pointers and hit only one, they knocked down 20-of-26 free-throw attempts and shot 57.6 percent from the field to help put away the Bulldogs.

Freshman Monny Niamke led all scorers with 24 points for the Blue Raiders while also adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior Ashley Franklin seemed to be all over the court for Lindsey Wilson, finishing with 16 points and four rebounds as she hit all four of her field-goal attempts and all eight of her free throws.

Wilberforce was led by Tanadra Spivey with 14 points, followed by Diamond Wright with 11 and Angelica Rucker with 10. Spivey also led the Bulldogs on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Tiffany Williams led Lindsey Wilson on the backboards, hauling in seven rebounds off the bench, while Niamke and sophomore Jasmine Brimm each added five. Brimm also joined Niamke and Franklin in double digits scoring with 14 points.

One area where the Blue Raiders struggled on a night where it seemed everything went so right was holding onto the basketball. Lindsey Wilson finished with 24 turnovers and 14 assists, while the Bulldogs didn't fare much better with 18 turnovers and nine assists.

Lindsey Wilson looked away from the three-point shot most of the night, instead taking advantage of its size to outscore Wilberforce in the paint 58-26. The Blue Raiders also led the game in rebounds 47-36.

Wilberforce didn't help its cause with a 29.6 percent showing from the field, hitting just 21-of-71 attempts. It did better from the stripe, knocking down 13-of-22 shots for 59.1 percent.

The Blue Raiders opened the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 26 points in the half to take a 47-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Out of the break it was another fast start for Lindsey Wilson as it scored the first 10 points of the half and had its way attacking the rim for easy layups the rest of the night.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 15 against 15th ranked Lee (Tenn.) University in Biggers Sports Center.
