WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Mid-South Conference Championships today at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park.
The Blue Raider women finished fifth with 116 team points while the men ended in eighth with 234 team points.
Lindsey Wilson junior Sharon Ronoh's dream season continued on Saturday as she captured her sixth individual title of the season. Her first-place finish gives the Timboroa, Kenya, native Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors and first-team all-conference honors.
Ronoh broke the tape in 17 minutes and 54 seconds to win the 5,000-meter race by 47 seconds over Shawnee State (Ohio) University's Sara Armstrong.
Armstrong's finish helped the host Bears capture the team title for the second straight season. Shawnee State ended with 37 points after four Bears finished in the top-10. University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) finished second with 55 points and Georgetown (Ky.) College ended in third with 77 team points.
Lindsey Wilson senior Alicia Mattingly was the second fastest Blue Raider on the day finishing in 24th place with a time of 21:03. Sophomore Maria Sanchez crossed the line in 28th position with a time of 21:33.
With the win, Ronoh earns a spot in the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Freshman Ben Graham led the Lindsey Wilson men with a 40th place finish. Graham completed the 8,000-meter course in 32:02. Freshman J.R. Northcutt, sophomore Kameron Spivey and freshman Jerry Gray finished 46th, 47th and 48th respectively in the 75-man field.
Shawnee State captured the team title with 18 team points and Bear junior Galen Dills captured the individual title and the MSC Men's Runner of the Year with a time of 25:29.
