Box Score RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team shot 77.3 percent from the field in the second half to win 79-74 today over host University of Rio Grande at Newt Oliver Arena.
Trailing 36-34 at the break, the No. 16-ranked Blue Raiders made a conscious effort in the second half to pound the ball inside to senior Viktoria Krell and sophomore Ashley Rainey. Lindsey Wilson shot 17 for 22 from the field following the half.
"I told the ladies that I wanted the ball inside," LWC coach John B. Wethington said of his halftime speech to the team. "We did a much better job in the second half of running our offense through our posts."
With the reassertion of the offensive game plan, Krell and Rainey finished the game with 23 points each. Krell added 10 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. Krell's seventh rebound in the game was her program-leading 1,200th of her career.
The Blue Raiders (19-6, 10-4 in the Mid-South Conference) finished the game shooting 57.1 percent (28-of-49) for the game as four players scored in double figures. Seniors Diondra Anthony and Bethany Spillman added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Rio Grande (16-10, 7-7) almost matched the Blue Raiders offensive output as the RedStorm shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field. But the best three-point shooting team in the conference -- the RedStorm entered the game shooting 36.2 percent from deep and 8.4 threes per game -- was held to four for 17 shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
With the win and coupled with a Shawnee State University 85-76 loss at Georgetown College on Saturday, the Blue Raiders move into a second-place tie in the MSC standings with the Bears at 10-4.
