Box Score ST. CATHARINE, Ky. -- Ashley Rainey scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to help the 12th ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team top St. Cathatine (Ky.) College 76-54 on Saturday at Lourdes Hall.
Senior Viktoria Krell added 16 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Sarah Gillis scored a career-high 16 points in the win.
The Patriots were led by Danielle Brown with 14 points, Carol-Ruiz Lopez scoring 12 and Reena Haliburton joining them in double figures with 10.
The Blue Raiders looked like a team on a mission from the very start of the game on. No signs of a letdown after the loss at Campbellsville (Ky.) University were evident as Lindsey Wilson got multiple steals and 3-point baskets from Gillis and Spillman in the game's first eight minutes.
Ten turnovers during that period didn't help the Patriots either, but with a barrage of 3-pointers keeping it in the game, St. Catharine trailed just 31-27 with a little more than four minutes left in the first half.
Lindsey Wilson got a boost late in the half from Gillis with a trio of steals and fast break layups, with one resulting in a three-point play after a foul. With the quick seven points from Gillis, the Blue Raiders were able to enter halftime with a 41-33 lead.
Depth started to play a part of the game in the second half as Lindsey Wilson used a high-energy defensive attack to keep turning the Patriots over and extend its lead to as many as 18 points in the first nine minutes of the half at 57-39.
Rainey and Krell each took breaks on the bench the rest of the half, allowing sophomore Britney Payne to collect a rebound and put-back basket to put Lindsey Wilson in front by 25 points with 5:11 to play.
The rest of the Blue Raiders reserves brought the game to a close over the final three minutes before ultimately putting the Patriots away for the 22-point loss.
Lindsey Wilson outshot St. Catharine from the field 54.7 percent to 33.9 percent, but the Blue Raiders struggled from behind the arc, hitting just 2-of-10 attempts for 20.0 percent. St. Catharine hit 9-of-22 threes for 40.9 percent.
St. Catharine was forced into 23 turnovers with just eight assists and was outrebounded by the Blue Raiders 36-30.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action in next week's Mid-South Conference Championship on March 3-6 in Frankfort, Ky., at the Frankfort Convention Center.
