Men's Tennis Beats Cumberlands 6-3

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team won its first road match of the season on Tuesday with a 6-3 win at the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).

The Blue Raiders fall to 3-5 overall on the season with the non-conference win while Cumberlands falls to 1-11 overall.

Lindsey Wilson seized control of the match winning two of the three doubles points to open the day.

The LWC top-seeded tandem of Andre Santos and Andrews Moraes beat Oscar Pantoja and David Ujueta 8-4, while second-seeded duo of Fabricio Morales and Vircto Saez defeated Guillermo Alvarez and Daniol Garcia 8-1 to take the 2-0 lead.

Cumberlands sliced the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-1 with the No. 3-seed doubles win as Jerrid Neeley and Steffan Crowe defeated Lindsey Wilson's Joe Cox and Clinton Berry 8-5.

The top five seeds for Lindsey Wilson secured the win with straight set victories to clinch the 6-3 win.

Morales improved to 4-2 this season as LWC's top singles player with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Pantoja. Moraes won at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alvarez.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 1, as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) University at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
