Women's Basketball Rallies in the Second Half to Top Georgetown 74-64

Box Score

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- No. 3 seed Lindsey Wilson College got 15 points, nine assists and nine rebounds from senior Diondra Anthony to help put away No. 6 seed Georgetown (Ky.) College 74-64 on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Sophomore Ashley Rainey led the team with 18 points and senior Viktoria Krell added 11 points for the Blue Raiders.

Kourtney Tyra poured in 20 points to pace the Tigers and Mandi Boykin finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Even with a sixth seed and 12-17 overall record Georgetown (12-18, 8-10 MSC) looked like a top team in the MSC through the first 10 minutes as it built an 18-14 lead and kept the Blue Raider offense confused and looking for an answer with Rainey on the bench with three fouls.

Needing a spark, Lindsey Wilson (23-7, 13-5 MSC) got just what it needed with three straight 3-pointers to take a 23-22 lead and avoid allowing a large deficit before halftime with Rainey on the bench.

The Blue Raiders went into halftime leading by just one at 31-30 and were outrebounded 21-13.

With Krell and Rainey on the court together again in the second half the Tigers didn't find scoring or grabbing rebounds quite as easy.

Rainey scored 11 points over a nine-minute span to help push Lindsey Wilson in front by a game-high 14 points (62-48) with just over seven minutes to play in the game.

Georgetown completely lost Williams on back-to-back possessions allowing the junior to drain a pair of 3-pointers during the Blue Raider rally.

The Tigers weren't done, however, as they chopped away at the Lindsey Wilson lead until it was just a six-point game at 70-64 with 59 seconds to play in the game.

Georgetown sent the Blue Raiders to the line down the stretch and Lindsey Wilson came through with enough makes to keep the Tigers at bay and pull off the 10-point win.

The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 46.4 percent from the field compared to 38.7 percent for the Tigers. Lindsey Wilson also connected on 42.9 percent of its threes but was outrebounded 44-28 by the Tigers.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday at the Frankfort Convention Center.
