Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Freshman Joe Cox won his first collegiate singles match on a feel-good day for the Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team as it routed Brescia (Ky.) University 7-2 on Friday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
Lindsey Wilson improved to 7-5 overall with the win, while the Bearcats fell to 5-7 with the loss.
Cox recorded his win at the No. 6 seed, 6-4, 6-1 against Darren Smith, while fifth seeded freshman Clinton Berry was the only Blue Raider to lose in singles' play with a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Jacob Blevins.
The Blue Raiders opened the match with a 2-1 lead after doubles' action, losing in the No. 3 match 8-2 as Brescia's Blevins and Smith beat Cox and Jacob Bryant.
No. 1 singles' seed Fabricio Morales got the Blue Raiders off to a good start with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Alex Schubert and Andrews Moraes won as well at No. 2 6-2, 6-3 against Julien Chenneberg.
Sophomore Victor Saez was a winner at the third seed 6-1, 6-1 over Alexis deVilleneove, while fourth seeded senior Andre Santos won 6-3, 6-3 against Thiago Mastroianni to finish off the team's 7-2 win.
Lindsey Wilson -- winners of five straight matches -- returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Monday, April 11th against Mid-South Conference rival Campbellsville (Ky.) University at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
