Men's Tennis Ousted by Auburn Montgomery 5-0 at NAIA Championship

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. -- Third-seeded Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) grabbed all three doubles' points to start the match en route to a 5-0 win against the No. 14 seed Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team in the second round of the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.

After the quick 3-0 lead after doubles' play, Auburn Montgomery needed just two singles' wins to seal the match, which it did at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. On the second day of play at nationals, all teams stop play after five wins have been reached.

The Senators didn't sweep the doubles' points without a challenge as Lindsey Wilson lost the first two seeds 8-4.

The Blue Raiders' No. 1 pair of seniors Andrews Moraes and Andre Santos lost to Boris Obama and Loic Didavi, while Lindsey Wilson's second pair of freshman Fabricio Morales and sophomore Victor Saez lost to Bruno Savi and Claudio Andrade.

Freshman Clinton Berry and Jacob Bryant fell in the No. 3 spot for the Blue Raiders 8-2 against Bence Toth and Philipp Mohr.

The decisive singles' points came from freshman Joe Cox's loss at No. 5 to Zinelabidine Jouini 6-0, 6-0 and Berry's 6-0, 6-1 loss to Andrade.

The top four singles' matches all went unfinished as Auburn Montgomery advances to face No. 6 seed Westmond (Calif.) University at 9 a.m. CT on Thursday at the Mobile Tennis Center in the quarterfinals.

Lindsey Wilson finishes the season with a 15-6 overall record, while the Senators improve to 24-3.
