CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A last-minute drive that had Lindsey Wilson College on a roll toward the end zone ended with a Campbellsville interception that sealed a 28-23 win for the Tigers on Saturday at Ron Finley Stadium.

Rome Cotton led all rushers with 60 yards and Branden Cresap threw for a game-high 301 yards and three touchdowns, but a blocked punt and pair of fumbles spoiled an early 10-0 Blue Raider lead.

Cresap put the ball in the air a lot, completing 29-of-51 passes, but the interception on his last throw will be the lasting image of a dramatic comeback effort.

Campbellsville's Bryan Parnes threw for 162 yards and a touchdown with only 11 completions. The Tiger running game was a two-headed attack of Parnes scrambling for 46 yards and Chris Cook rattling off 44 yards and three touchdowns.

Matt Powers was the leading receiver in the game, catching a program-record 11 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers didn't have a standout receiver, but Steph Haynes provided a highlight with his one catch, going for 76 yards and leading to a Campbellsville (2-5, 1-2 MSC West) touchdown.

Lindsey Wilson (2-5, 0-2 MSC West) took control of the game early with an opening scoring drive of 77 yards that included 12 plays and lasted nearly six minutes. Powers caught five passes during the drive including the first touchdown on a 31-yard heave to the end zone.

Things only got better from there as Parnes fumbled a snap on the next drive that was recovered by Griffin Clark inside the Tigers' 20-yard line. Lindsey Wilson failed to convert the recovery into a touchdown, instead settling for a 10-0 lead on Mark Corbett's 20-yard field goal.

Corey Lillard kept the Lindsey Wilson momentum going with an interception on the Tigers' next drive. Lillard grabbed the ball at the Lindsey Wilson 20-yard line and ran with it 42 yards into Campbellsville territory. The Blue Raiders picked up two first downs in the drive, but had to settle for a 38-yard field goal that Corbett knocked off the right upright.

The Blue Raiders returned the turnover favor with six minutes left in the half with a fumble on their own 36. Campbellsville kept the ball for two minutes, converting on a fourth down before scoring its first touchdown on a one-yard rush by Cook.

Trailing 10-7, the Tigers forced a Blue Raider punt with 14 seconds left in the half and made them pay with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Parnes to Dem Gibson to take a 14-10 lead into the break.

The second-half opened with Corbett's punt being blocked with 11:07 on the clock in the third quarter. Campbellsville once again converted on the turnover with another one-yard run by Cook to take a 21-10 lead.

Near the end of the quarter the Blue Raiders got back on the scoreboard as Cresap hit Powers deep in the corner of the end zone to make the Tiger lead 21-17 heading into the final quarter.

With eight minutes to play in the game, Lindsey Wilson went for it on 4th and five at the Tigers' 18-yard line, but Cresap's pass to Powers fell incomplete. Campbellsville took over and after a four-yard rush, Parnes went deep to Haynes for 76 yards. Cook finished the drive with his third one-yard run to put Campbellsville up 28-17.

Three minutes later Cresap threw his third touchdown pass to Powers and after a failed two-point conversion Lindsey Wilson was down five with five minutes to play.

Lindsey Wilson stood its ground on the Tigers' next drive, forcing a punt with two minutes left that was fair caught by Chris Dobbins at the 13-yard line.

In a drive the mirrored the opening round of plays, Cresap found a groove, completing five straight passes until the Blue Raiders were in Tiger territory at the 17 with 24 seconds on the clock.

Looking for his sixth completion, Cresap went over the middle to a pair of Blue Raider receivers where the ball was tipped in the air and intercepted by Earl McCann at the five-yard line.

Campbellsville secured the win by taking a knee to let the final seconds tick off the clock as it kept the rights to the travelling Battle for Highway 55 trophy for the third straight season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Belhaven University at Blue Raider Stadium.
