Brimm, Rainey Lead No. 24 Women's Basketball Past Rio Grande 94-75

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- There was no stopping Ashley Rainey and Jasmine Brimm on Saturday afternoon as Rainey finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds and Brimm added 23 points, five boards and four assists to push No. 24 Lindsey Wilson College past Rio Grande (Ohio) 94-75 in Biggers Sports Center.

Jayvonna Sadler paced the RedStorm with 25 points and six rebounds, while Kaylee Helton and Shardae Morrison-Fountain reached double figures for Rio Grande (16-10, 5-7 MSC) as well with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Sarah Gillis continued her stretch of strong offensive games with 14 points for Lindsey Wilson (18-8, 6-6 MSC) on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including three 3-pointers.

Morrison-Fountain's basket with 12:50 to play in the first half made it a two-point Blue Raider lead, but a 15-2 Lindsey Wilson run over the next 15 minutes put the RedStorm in a hole that they never dug out of.

While the Blue Raiders built leads as large as 26 points, the closest Rio Grande got after giving up the run was an 11-point deficit with a little over five minutes left in the first half.

At halftime the Blue Raiders were in control 48-29 as Brimm has already tallied 16 points and they were shooting 45.7 percent from the field as a team.

Lindsey Wilson scored 24 points from the free-throw line, shooting 70.6 percent, while the RedStorm ended up scoring 14 points from the stripe after only making one trip to the line in the first half.

Both teams ended the game shooting well from the field with Lindsey Wilson holding a slight 49.2 to 46.8 percent advantage. It was the 3-point line where Rio Grande got in trouble, hitting just 3-of-18 attempts for 16.7 percent.

The Blue Raiders went from hitting 5-of-13 threes in the first half, to a 1-for-6 showing in the second to finish shooting 31.6 percent from behind the arc.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 16 against Shawnee State (Ohio) in Portsmouth, Ohio.
