Box Score RED OAK, Iowa -- The No.13-ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season today with an 8-1 win over University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The win is also the first for coach Daniel Finn in his Blue Raider coaching career.
"We really played well from start to finish today," Finn said. "After a hard fought match yesterday, I wasn't really sure how we would be physically but the guys showed a lot of heart and determination and really went after this match today."
Lindsey Wilson bounces back today with the win after a season-opening 5-4 loss yesterday to NCAA Division II's Northwest Missouri State University.
The lone Nebraska-Kearney (1-2) point came from the Lopers' top doubles team.
Josh Raymond and Yeswanth Nadella -- ranked second in NCAA Division II -- defeated Lindsey Wilson's Pablo Vilches and Gilles Cornelis 8-4 in the top doubles match to give the Lopers the early 1-0 lead.
That would prove to be the only point from Nebraska-Kearney -- who is receiving votes in the NCAA Division II men's tennis poll.
Lindsey Wilson's Fabricio Morales and Marlon Dal Pont and Fernando Bogajo and Victor Saez each earned 8-5 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles action.
The Blue Raiders dominated singles play for the second straight day as the top five spots won their match in straight sets on Sunday.
Morales opened singles play with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over Nadella in the No. 2 singles match to extend the Blue Raiders lead to 3-1.
Saez followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney's Revel Yehezkia at the fourth-seeded singles to push the lead to 4-1. The decisive point came in the No. 3-singles as Vilches defeated John Steinke 6-2, 6-0 to give Lindsey Wilson the five points necessary for its first win of the season.
Bogajo and Cornelis each earned straight set wins while Dal Pont defeated Arin Enge 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7) to complete the 8-1 win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday, February 15 as the Blue Raiders travel to NCAA Division I Morehead State (Ky.) University in Morehead, Ky.
