No. 12 Men's Tennis Opens MSC Play with 8-1 Win against Pikeville

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 12 Lindsey Wilson College tamed a feisty Pikeville (Ky.) men's tennis team 8-1 on Saturday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

"I am happy with the way our guys showed up today and took care of business," said Blue Raider head coach Daniel Finn. "That was a good team we beat today. Don't get me wrong, we still have a lot to work on, but I do like where we are heading."

While there weren't any shutout wins at any seed, the Blue Raiders were still in control in all of their eight wins.

The lone loss of the day came at No. 4 singles where Victor Saez lost to Sven Rodenbusch 6-3, 6-4.

Lindsey Wilson opened play with a 3-0 lead after doubles.

Fernando Bogajo and Pablo Vilches started things off at No. 1 with an 8-6 win against Dmitry Babenkov and Sergei Krasiloikov, while Fabricio Morales and Gilles Cornelis were 8-4 winners at No. 2 against Sernandez and Rodenbusch.

Saez and Marlon Dal Pont wrapped up doubles with an 8-3 win at No. 3 against Lucas Cardoso Oliveira and Connor Smith.

Morales finished first in singles at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Krasiloikov and Vilches clinched the win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Smith.

Other Blue Raider winners included Bogajo at the top seed 6-0, 7-5 over Babenkov, Cornelis 6-2, 6-1 against Marcus Sernandez Fondelius at No. 5 and Dal Pont 6-0. 6-3 against Cardoso Oliveria at No. 6.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 1 p.m. CT on Monday at No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, Tenn.
