Men's Tennis Beats Detroit for Seventh Straight Win

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- It was a singles surge for the Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team today as the Blue Raiders beat NCAA Division I University of Detroit 4-3 at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

After losing the doubles point -- the two teams played by NCAA rules today with the winner of two doubles matches receiving the doubles point -- the Blue Raiders (8-3) won four of the six singles matches en route to their seventh straight win.

Detroit (5-9) grabbed the 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Jay Joshi and Pablo Nunez opened the match with an 8-3 win over Victor Saez and Marlon Dal Pont in the third-seeded doubles match. The Titans claimed the point when Chris Cheung and Mike Basha beat Fernando Bogajo and Pablo Vilches 9-7 in the top doubles match.

Lindsey Wilson's Fabricio Morales and Gilles Cornelis improved to 8-0 on the season as a doubles team after they dismissed Alex Latosinsky and David Stabley 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The No. 12-ranked Blue Raiders' comeback began immediately as Lindsey Wilson won the next three points with straight set wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 4 singles.

Fabricio Morales -- the reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week -- tied the match at 1-1 with a dominate 6-0, 6-2 win over Nick Tolomei at the second-seeded singles. Gilles Cornelis followed with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 over Pablo Nunez to give the Blue Raiders a lead they would never relinquish.

Victor Saez extended the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mike Basha at the fourth-seeded singles.

The Titans climbed within a point in the team match following Cesar Escobar Serran's 6-4, 7-5 win over Pablo Vilches at No. 3 singles.

But, Fernando Bogajo closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Alex Latosinsky in the top singles match to give the Blue Raiders the necessary four points for the win.

David Streeter claimed the Titans' third point of the day following his 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-0 win over Lindsey Wilson's Marlon Dal Pont in the No. 6 singles.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Monday, March 12, as the Blue Raiders travel to Southern Indiana University in Evansville, Ind.
