Men's Tennis Beats Bethel 7-2 Today in Regular Season Finale

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A doubles sweep and solid singles play helped host Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis to a 7-2 win today over Bethel (Tenn.) University at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The No. 12-ranked Blue Raiders (16-5) completed the win -- LWC won the first five matches -- before the Wildcats (7-10) won their first team point of the day.

Lindsey Wilson's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams cruised to 8-4 and 8-1 wins respectively to take an early 2-0 lead.

Fabricio Morales and Gilles Cornelis ran their doubles record to 17-1 on the season with an 8-4 win over Bethel's Paolo Vecchi and Eduardo Espinar in the second-seeded doubles match. Lindsey Wilson's Victor Saez and Marlon Dal Pont -- also 17-1 on the season in doubles -- extended the lead following their 8-1 win over Travis Hyman and Raphael Sousa.

The top doubles match went the distance and then some as LWC's Fernando Bogajo and Fredrik Graaner outlasted Peter Baca and Kristian Takac 9-8 by winning the tiebreak 8-6. The win sent the Blue Raiders into singles up 3-0.

It didn't take the Blue Raiders long to gain the necessary five points to secure the win as Morales and Vilches dominated at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to push the lead to 5-0.

Morales defeated Vecchi 6-1, 6-1 while Vilches just missed a sweep of Takac winning 6-0, 6-1.

Saez and Dal Pont also earned straight set singles wins on the day.

Lindsey Wilson -- who finished the Mid-South Conference with a 6-0 regular season record -- earned the opening round bye as the tournament's top seed in next weekend's conference tournament in Lexington, Ky.

The Blue Raiders face the winner of fourth-seeded University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) and fifth-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) College on Friday, April 20 at the University of Kentucky Boone Tennis Center.
