Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- On a day where every match was in reach, the 12th ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team couldn't put away enough wins as No. 5 Auburn-Montgomery took a 6-3 win on Tuesday at the AUM Tennis Complex.
Trouble started for the Blue Raiders in doubles, where if they had finished a big lead in the top-seeded match, they could have enjoyed a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
No. 1 seeded duo Fernando Bogajo and Fredrik Graaner led AUM's Josh Reason and Bence Toth 5-1, but watched the pair take seven straight games to pull off the 8-5 win.
Lindsey Wilson's second pair of Fabricio Morales and Gilles Cornelis lost 8-4 against Nicolas Pinones and Zinelabidine Jouini, while third-seeded Marlon Dal Pont and Victor Saez did manage an 8-3 decision against AUM's Marlu Van Vuuren and Matias Dasso.
Jouini sealed the win for the Warhawks at No. 5 singles, tallying the team's fifth team point with a 6-4,6-0 win against Cornelis.
Prior to that, Lindsey Wilson had tied the match 2-2 when Morales was the first player to finish in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Reason.
AUM went on to win the next three matches and the final match to close out its win over the feisty Blue Raiders.
Seventh ranked Bogajo battled 17th ranked Pinones at No. 1 singles so long that they settled the match with a super tiebreaker with the win already in the Warkawks hands.
Bogajo ultimately lost the match 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (8), while Dal Pont joined Morales with a singles win, beating Dasso 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 7 at UVa.-Wise in Wise, Va.
