Gillis Lights Up Bluefield in 86-76 Win for Women's Basketball

COLUMBIA, Ky – Sarah Gillis found her offense in a big way on Thursday, scoring a team-high 28 points in Lindsey Wilson College's 86-76 win over Bluefield (Va.) in the return to Mid-South Conference play at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders hadn't hosted a conference opponent since November, but made the win against the Rams count, leading by as many as 15 points in the second half.

Bluefield built a three-point lead in the game's first minute, but once the Blue Raiders got on top they never looked back to improve to 12-5 overall and an even 4-4 in MSC play.

Gillis wasn't alone in the scoring column for Lindsey Wilson as Ashley Rainey added 22 points and Jasmine Brimm tallied 10. Gillis also finished with six assists and just one turnover as she bolstered her scoring with a 10-for-12 performance from the free-throw line.

Ashley White turned in the best offensive performance of the night with 31 points in the losing effort for the Rams. Bluefield drops to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Lindsey Wilson shot just under 50 percent from the field at 49.1 and hit four threes. There were lots of shots from the stripe, with the Blue Raiders finishing 26-for-38.

After leading at the break 35-28, Lindsey Wilson and Bluefield each scored a lot more points in the second half with the Blue Raiders leading the way 51-48. The Rams shot 42.4 percent from the field.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the court at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Jan. 17 against No. 7 Cumberland (Tenn.) at Biggers Sports Center.
