Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – A shorthanded Lindsey Wilson College team lost its first home game of the season as 17 points and 12 rebounds from Ashley Rainey were not enough to slow down seventh-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 57-37 loss on Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.
Jasmine Brimm added nine points and four rebounds and Tara Arnold tallied five points in her first appearance with the Blue Raiders after transferring at the semester break. Still, shooting 32 percent from the field and 10 percent from three limited what Lindsey Wilson could do against the top-10 Bulldogs.
After neither team could score a point for nearly three minutes, the Bulldogs finally got on a roll, scoring mainly off turnovers, to build a 15-2 lead.
Lindsey Wilson answered with a 16-7 run, capped off by a three from Tara Arnold, to make it a four-point game with four minutes left in the half. But the Bulldogs would pull back ahead by 12 before halftime and Lindsey Wilson never got the deficit back into single digits.
At its highest, the Cumberland lead swelled to 22 points with five minutes left in the game on a free throw from London Elie.
Lindsey Wilson controlled the backboard for a 35-28 advantage, but 26 turnovers with just three assists doomed the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson played the game without the services of starting guard Sarah Gillis and reserve point guard Jadelyn Profitt who were out nursing injuries.
The low-scoring affair saw just three total players reach double figures scoring. The two from Cumberland were Casie Cowan (12) on three 3-pointers and Briannica Tye with 10 points. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 42.3 percent from the field.
Lindsey Wilson turns its attention to 2 p.m. CT on Saturday when it hosts 16th-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center.
