MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men and women's swimming teams opened the 2013 portion of their schedule tonight in a double dual with Union (Ky.) and host Milligan (Tenn.).
The Blue Raider women won both duals while the men dropped both matches.
With five individual wins and a relay win, the Lindsey Wilson women defeated Union 51-43 and Milligan 51-42 to improve to 7-3 this season in duals.
Sarah Wood captured the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:00.80 to earn a national B cut to punch her ticket to the national championships in March. Wood captured the event by nearly six full seconds.
She added another first place finish -- along with Elena Nikolaeva, Kate Spaulding and Susan Harrington -- in the 200-meter medley relay. The quartet won the event by two seconds with a time of 2:14.72.
Harrington (100 butterfly), Nikolaeva (100 backstroke), Spaulding (100 breaststroke) and Kelsey Marshall (800 free) also notched wins during the meet.
On the men's side, Union defeated Lindsey Wilson 73-21 while Milligan slipped past the Blue Raiders 52-43.
Jonathan Hindman produced a pair of second place finishes while Luke Royal and Corey Hall each added a second to lead the Blue Raiders.
Milligan's Evan Alfano just out-touched Hindman in the 100 breaststroke winning by 8-one hundredths of a second. Hindman finished the event with a time of 1:09.33. He added another second in the 400 IM with a time of 5:06.76
Royal produced his second place finish in the 100 free (57.69) while Hall ended runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:01.71). Both lost by just over one second respectively in their event.
The Blue Raiders fall to 5-5 this season in duals with the losses.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 26 as the Blue Raiders travel to Wilmore, Ky. for a pair of duals with Urbana (Ohio) and host Asbury (Ky.).
