GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Lindsey Wilson women's swim team earned seven national cut times in six events at the Brenau University Invitational, including five today at Frances Meadows Aquatic Center, as the Blue Raiders now have the most national cuts in program history.
The Blue Raiders finished in sixth place with 237 points as Savannah College of Arts and Design (Ga.) finished in first place with a score of 692. University of West Florida took second with 682 points as Limestone (S.C.) College placed third with 636 points. The Brenau Invitational hosted 12 schools in the women's event.
Lindsey Wilson broke four school records - the 200 yard freestyle relay and 400 yard medley relay on Friday - and the 400 and 800 yard freestyle relays today.
Lindsey Wilson women's 800 freestyle relay team – Sarah Wood, Kelsey Marshall, Elena Nikolaeva and Laura Stephenson – broke the school record by finishing in 8:20.03. The team shaved over a minute off the record. In session three this evening, the 400 freestyle relay A team – Paige Lewis, Stephenson, Marshall and Nikolaeva – also broke the school record with a time of 3:48.93.
Nikolaeva earned one of her three national cut times this weekend with an "A" cut in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:58.17 in session two this morning. Nikolaeva earned a national "B" cut time in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.28 in session three. On Friday she earned a national cut time in the 200 individual medley (2:17.50).
Stephenson won the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 57.67 in session two, giving her an improved national cut time in the 100 butterfly. Stephenson earned national "A" cut time in the 1650 yard freestyle and placed sixth with a time of 18:12.12 in session three. Stephenson earned two national cut times at the invitational, as well as improved her cut time in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.33. She earned a national "A" cut in the 200 individual medley on Friday.
Marshall earned a national "A" cut and took seventh place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.64 while Susan Herrington earned her national "A" cut in the 200 butterfly with at time of 2:16.40.
Lindsey Wilson women's swimming hosts University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) and University of Evansville (Ind.) on Senior Night, Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m. CT in the Holloway Center Natatorium.
