Box Score RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Cassidy Martin's career night not enough as Lindsey Wilson women's basketball suffered their first loss of the season, 90-83 to University of Rio Grande (Ohio) at The Newt Oliver Arena.
The Blue Raiders (6-1, 1-1 MSC) loss to the Red Storm is just the third loss in 11 meetings with Rio Grande. Lindsey Wilson holds an 8-3 advantage in the all-time series.
Martin led the way for the Blue Raiders with a career-high 23 points (9-for-14) including 15 points (5-8) from beyond the three-point line. Martin also led the team with six rebounds in 24 minutes.
The Red Storm took an early 10-7 lead on the Blue raiders after an Alexis Payne two-point shot. Lindsey Wilson responded with a 5-0 run to take a 13-10 lead on a Bre Elder shot in the paint. The Blue Raiders extended the lead to 21-14 with a Martin three-pointer and two free-throws from Tara Arnold.
Rio Grande cut the lead to two at 21-19 but a 6-0 run extended the lead to 27-19 for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders took an 11 point lead at 43-32 after a Martin shot in the paint with one minute and 38 seconds left in the first half. The Red Storm did not abandon its game plan as they went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to four at 43-39 at halftime.
Lindsey Wilson took a 47-43 lead before Rio Grande tied it at 47 with 18 minutes and four seconds left in the game. The Red Storm would take an eight point lead thanks to Sarah Bonar, 61-53.
The Blue Raiders continued to keep the game in reach taking a 75-74 lead thanks to a Martin three-point shot but the Red Storm responded with a three of their own to take a 77-75 lead with five minutes and 48 seconds left in the game.
Lindsey Wilson would tie it two more times before Rio Grande took an 81-81 tie and closed the game on a 9-2 run to win the game 90-83.
Lindsey Wilson shot 47.5 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc while Rio Grande shot 51.6 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from the three-point line. Both teams shot 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Bre Elder was the second leading scorer for the Blue Raiders with 14 points. Ranika Rone and Chanel Roberts both finished with five rebounds apiece. Kayla Richardson finished the game with 12 points and three assists.
