Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – Bre Elder and Jamie Cummings recorded double-doubles to lead the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team to its first win of the season, a 78-64 victory over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University Tuesday night.
Elder scored 22 points on 10-29 shooting with 11 rebounds while Cummings totaled 15 points on 6-11 shooting and 11 boards. Kayla Richardson chipped in going 5-6 from the free throw line. Cassidy Martin added 13 points including going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
The Blue Raiders (1-0) shot 50 percent from the field, including four three-pointers, and shot 52.6 percent from the charity stripe.
Lindsey Wilson took control early, going up 27-17 to lead by ten. Mid-Continent was able to climb back and trim the lead to two at 29-27, but the Blue Raiders went on a 4-2 run to take a 33-29 lead into the half.
Mid-Continent kept Lindsey Wilson close early in the second half, but the Blue Raiders kept up the pressure to go up 78-59 for a 19-point lead. Mid-Continent scored seven points, including a late Trina Valencia three-pointer, but it proved to be too big of a lead to overcome.
The Cougars (0-2) were led by Chantiera Johnson with 27 points while Stephanie Malone finished with 21.
Mid-Continent was 25-58 on field goals, shot 4-17 from beyond the arc and 10-22 from the free-throw line.
The Lindsey Wilson bench outscored the Mid-Continent bench by a score of 25-5.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Nov. 8 to host Cincinnati Christian University for a 6 p.m. CT contest.
