Women's Basketball Dropped by No. 18 Georgetown 92-75

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Ashley Rainey and Jasmine Brimm were good, scoring 25 and 22 points, respectively, but No. 18 Georgetown (Ky.) was better on Saturday afternoon, beating Lindsey Wilson 92-75 at Biggers Sports Center.

The Tigers used a 47-34 advantage at halftime to stymie the Blue Raiders, helping it withstand only outscoring Lindsey Wilson (16-13, 7-12) by four in the second half. Both teams were lights out from the field at 50 percent, but the real advantage was Georgetown connecting on 12 3-pointers at 63 percent, compared to 35 percent outside shooting for the Blue Raiders.

Kourtney Tyra was the long-range catalyst for the Tigers (20-8, 14-5 MSC), shooting 5 for 7 from behind the arc as she matched Rainey with a game-high 25 points. Andrea Howard added 19, hitting 5 of 6 shots from the free-throw line.

Georgetown took care of the ball, turning it over just eight times with 19 assists, while Lindsey Wilson struggled to 17 turnovers with 12 assists.

There weren't many rebounds available with the hot shooting, but with what did come off the rim, Georgetown held an advantage at 37-30.

Kasey Litzinger added 12 points in the loss for Lindsey Wilson, hitting both of her 3-point attempts, while no other Blue Raiders had more than five.

Lindsey Wilson jumped out in front 2-0 after a layup by Brimm right after the opening tip, but the Tigers claimed the lead at 4-2 on a basket by Lizza Jonas and kept it the rest of the game.

Georgetown's first-half lead swelled to as many as 17 points with three minutes left after Tyra finished a layup after a foul. Brimm knocked the lead down to 11 with 13 minutes to play at 58-47, but the Tigers answered with an 8-2 run and gained control of the game for good.
