Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team made the most of its home debut today as the Blue Raiders swept UVa.-Wise and Brescia (Ky.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders won both matches 9-0 to improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference with the win over Wise (1-3, 0-2 MSC).
In the morning match with Wise, the Blue Raiders won all but 12 games in the six singles matches. Earlier in doubles play, Lindsey Wilson won all but three games in the three matches.
Franciso Charters and Fernando Bogajo swept Vladyslav Akimenko and Marc Huff 8-0 at the top doubles match. Second-seeded Giles Cornelis and Fabrico Morales matched the top LWC doubles team with another 8-0 win. Cornelis and Morales bested Oleg Kopychenko and Jon Saado.
Lindsey Wilson's Marlon Dal Pont and Sam Rogersen completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Chase Cupp and Zack Holcomb in the third doubles match.
Needing just two singles to claim the match, Morales pushed the Blue Raider lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kopychenko in the second-seeded singles match. Dal Pont clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Huff at the third-seeded singles match.
The remainder of the matches continued with the most competitive match at the top singles.
Bogajo defeated Akimenko 6-4, 6-2 to preserve the Lindsey Wilson sweep.
As dominant as the Blue Raiders were in the Wise win, the Lindsey Wilson win over Brescia was even more lopsided.
Lindsey Wilson surrendered just seven games in six singles win and one game in the in three doubles win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 28 as the Blue Raiders face MSC foe Bluefield (Va.) in Georgetown, Ky.
