No. 4 Men's Tennis Uses Singles Sweep to Top Northwestern Ohio 7-2

COLUMBIA, Ky. – After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team turned up the heat to sweep all six singles matches for a 7-2 win against Northwestern Ohio on Friday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The highlight match of the day came at No. 1 singles where Lindsey Wilson's 11th-ranked Fernando Bogajo came back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to beat No. 4 Daniel Rueda 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Using the momentum from Bogajo's big win, the Blue Raiders went on to win in straight sets in three of the next five matches.

Fabricio Morales took down Gustavo Rueda 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, fifth-seeded Francisco Charters beat Cassio Sirimarro 6-2, 6-0 and Gilles Cornelis topped Alex Hager 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 seed.

Doubles play didn't go as smoothly for Lindsey Wilson as only top-seeded Bogajo and Charters earned a win, beating Gustavo Rueda and Sirimarro 8-1.

Morales and Cornelis lost a close match at No. 2 doubles, falling to Daniel Rueda and Hager 9-8 (8), while Marlon Dal Pont and Sam Rogerson came up short for the Blue Raiders against Emin Alpan and Thommy Johansson, losing 8-3.

Other singles wins for Lindsey Wilson included Dal Pont bouncing back to beat Alpan 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 and Rogerson earning a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Johansson.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesday, hosting Georgetown (Ky.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
