Men's Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale at Bethel

Box Score

McKENZIE, Tenn. -- No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis lost a hard-fought 5-4 battle today at No 11-ranked Bethel in the Blue Raiders final match of the regular season.

The loss ended the Blue Raiders (13-3) 11-match winning streak. Bethel improves to 18-1 with the win.

Lindsey Wilson captured two of the three doubles points to open the match as Fernando Bogajo and Francisco Charters won as the top doubles seed and Marlon Dal Pont and Fabrico Morales won at No. 2 doubles.

Dal Pont and Morales secured the first point of the day with an 8-3 win over Nikola Salvika and Paolo Vecchi. Bogajo and Charters followed with an 8-6 win over Peter Baca and Robin Demasse.

The Wildcats earned their first point of the day in the third-seeded match. Eduardo Espinar and Travis Hyman outlasted Pablo Vilches and Gilles Cornelis 8-6 to head to the singles matches trailing the Blue Raiders 2-1.

Charters and Dal Pont each provided easy wins for the Blue Raiders during singles play.

Dal Pont defeated Vecchi 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 match while Charters breezed past Salvik 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth-seeded match.

But Bethel would own the rest of the matches to pull off the upset. The Wildcats are the first NAIA team to beat the Blue Raiders this season.

While Demasse beat Morales in straight sets at No. 2, the remainder of the matches needed three sets to provide a winner. Lindsey Wilson was not able to win any of the decisive sets en route to the loss.

Up next for the Blue Raiders is postseason play in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson will host the MSC Tournament's quarterfinal match against the tournament's No. 8 seed later this week. The tournament field has yet to be determined.
