Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – The score shows an 8-1 win for the fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Monday, but the path to get there wasn't as easy as it looks.
The Red Hawks (4-7) pushed the Blue Raiders (7-2) to three sets in two singles matches and saw the top-seeded doubles match end with a 9-7 score.
It was Fernando Bogajo and Francisco Charters in the No. 1 spot for Lindsey Wilson as the duo overcame Ramiro Vargas and Alejandro Yanes for the narrow win. Second-seeded Fabricio Morales and Sam Rogerson topped Alvaro Morcillo and Cristian Arias 8-4, while Gilles Cornelis and Pablo Vilches had the easiest time at No. 3, beating Daniel Emirzian and Farith Lozano 8-0.
Martin Methodist earned its lone win of the day at No. 2 singles where Morcillo upset No. 45 Morales 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The tightly contested singles matches at the top of the lineup were the highlight of the day.
No. 1 and 11th-ranked Bogajo beat Vargas 7-5, 4-6, 10-2, utilizing a super set to decide the winner of the long affair.
The only other close match came at No. 3 where Marlon Dal Pont earned a point for the Blue Raiders with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win against Arias. Other than that, it was Charters beating Yanes 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Rogerson getting the best of Emirzian 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 and Vilches closing out the match 6-0, 6-2 against Lozano.
Lindsey Wilson, winner of its last five matches, is right back at it on Tuesday, travelling to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a 2 p.m. CT start.
