Men's Tennis Ends Season in NAIA Quarterfinals

MOBILE, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis fell to top-seeded Embry-Riddle (Fla.) 5-1 today in the NAIA National Tournament quarterfinals at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders' season ends with a 17-4 record. No. 1-ranked Embry-Riddle advances on to tomorrow's national semifinals against No. 4 Westmont (Calif.).

No. 8-seed Lindsey Wilson managed to take one of the doubles matches off the Eagles to trail 2-1 heading to singles.

Fabricio Morales and Marlon Dal Pont captured the point in the second-seeded doubles match as the Blue Raider duo defeated Patrick Besch and Anthony Grasso 8-4. With the win, Morales and Dal Pont concluded the season 9-0 as a doubles team.

Chris Freeman and Deni Zmak scored the first point of the match for the Eagles beating Fernando Bogajo and Francisco Charters 8-4 in the top-seeded doubles match. The loss was just the second this season for Bogajo and Charters -- who are ranked seventh in the NAIA in doubles -- in 20 matches this season.

Embry-Riddle scored the second point of the day with a win at No. 3 doubles.

Simon Felix and Kevin Chaouat earned a hard-fought 8-5 win over Pablo Vilches and Gilles Cornelis for the 2-0 lead.

Morales and Dal Pont posted the lone Blue Raiders win to send the match into singles trailing 2-1.

The Eagles (22-2) needed just three matches to punch their ticket into their ninth consecutive national semifinal.

Felix secured the third Eagle point at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Vilches. David Spennare needed just one more game than Felix as he defeated Cornelis 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth-seeded match for the 4-1 lead.

Freeman produced the final point of the day as he won 6-4, 6-1 over Dal Pont at the third-seeded match. The remaining of the matches were stopped once Embry-Riddle secured the fifth point.
